Please Try To Read!
Today was the first day of English classes at Toba Elementary School. The sixth-graders were looking forward to my coming back for another exciting year. The fifth-graders were very excited to begin learning English formally. Everyone happily sang the "Good Afternoon" song. We all had a lot of fun. The fifth-graders learned how to introduce themselves and the sixth-graders learned how to count to one-hundred.
To the parents of these wonderful, enthusiastic, and energetic students:
Please encourage your children to look for opportunities to use English in their daily lives. If they can't find any, have them create opportunities for themselves, or create opportunities for them. Let them see that learning English is fun and it can be useful to them. When they meet foreigners in the town or on vacation, they shouldn't stop at "Hello!" but try to use as much English as they can! Most of all, encourage them to make mistakes! If they never try because they're afraid of making a mistake, then they'll never learn. The best way to learn is to make mistakes and just keep on trying until you get it!
All the best,
Jason Monti, Wakasa Town Elementary School ALT
